Indonesia became one of the countries visited by many foreign workers. This is because Indonesia is indeed provided wide opportunities for foreigners who want to live and work there. In this case, the foreigners need to be taken care a limited stay permit (Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas or KITAS) if they wish to settle for a certain period in Indonesia. KITAS is a permit that given to foreign residents who have temporary stay permit in Indonesia. Then, this guide will give you a brief overview of how to arrange a limited stay permit in Indonesia. Who is qualified? The first thing you need to know is who has the qualifications to get a limited stay permit in Indonesia. This stay permit is certainly not given to just anyone. Certain conditions must be met, such as: 1. The foreigner who enters the Indonesia territory with a limited stay visa. 2. Children born in the Indonesian region of a parent who holds a limited stay permit. 3. The foreigner who gets a Visit Permit. 4. The crew of ships such as a skipper, crew, or foreign expert who is in the territorial waters or the jurisdiction of Indonesia in accordance with the provisions of the legislation. 5. The foreigner who marry Indonesian citizen legally in the civil registry. 6. A child of a foreigner who has been legally married to an Indonesian citizen. 7. This stay permit is only provided for skilled workers, not those with unskilled labor. Procedures to get KITAS Once you know who is qualified for this permit, it’s time to understand the KITAS filling procedure at the immigration office. The KITAS application shall be submitted to the Head of Immigration Office or appointed immigration official for the working area covering the foreigner’s residence in Indonesia. This application must be filed within 30 days after the Entry Sign is given. If you are late to take care of it, you have to pay the penalty. For foreigners whose purpose is to work as an expert in Indonesia, the KITAS request is submitted by filling out the data application and enclosing the following requirements: • A sponsorship letter that made to the Director of Immigration by filling out a pre-determined form. • Sponsor identity certificate • Valid passport and copies. • Did you take your family while moving to Indonesia? For your wife and/or your (immature and unmarried) children, you must include a marriage certificate, birth certificate, and also your identity certificate. • A domicile certificate that obtained from the local authority. • Letter of recommendation from relevant government institutions. • Bring the latest color photo 2x3cm, as many as 4 sheets. • At last, you must pay immigration fee. KITAS fee According to government regulation no. 45/2014 on the types and tariffs for the types of non-tax state revenue applied by the Indonesian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, the following details of the KITAS fee: • Limited Stay Permit for visa on arrival or maximum stay of 6 months is charged IDR 450,000 (USD 31.5) per person. • KITAS with 1-year period, you must pay IDR 800,000 (USD 56) per person. • Meanwhile, for KITAS which is valid for 2 years is priced IDR 1,400,000 (USD 98).
